Some research has been conducted on the graffiti and sexually explicit frescoes found on its ground floor- however, most other aspects of the structure, including the layout and function of its heterogeneous second floor, have been neglected. As an interdisciplinary endeavor, this thesis examines the physical remains of the lupanar and its surrounding areas so as to develop a probable working model of the edifice. Through a detailed investigation of its internal and external organization, it is demonstrated that the building was specifically located and designed to maximize profit for its owner(s) before its destruction with the rest of the city during the early Imperial Roman era.
