It is a romantic short story written in poetic form, predominantly in rhyme. Itas a lifelike tale in which barely audible and rather elusive sounds of weeping weave their way throughout the lives of a man, his wife, and other individuals whose lives are filled with loneliness, frustration, and betrayal. Because of the development of a violent hurricane and a destroyed automobile, a female client becomes marooned with the husband of the woman with whom she is to complete a business contract.

The wife is herself stranded out West because flights back home have been delayed as a result of the same hurricane and cannot meet with the client. To make matters worse, a mistimed telephone call to his wife causes the husband to become painfully aware of the infidelity of his wife.
